Dear Sales Reps,

    Making a living as a sales person is not easy, yet some of the highest paid people in our society make their living in sales.  What are they doing that is so different from those sales professionals who are barely making a living!     
    Well, sometimes it depends on what you are selling; However, more often than not, it depends on the sales person him/her self!   Based on my research and more importantly, my personal experience I have found that in every case those sales professionals who understands the Life Time Value of a customers makes far more money in sales than those who do not.  There is clearly a powerful difference between a sales professional and what I call a ... "One Hit Sales Wonder!   The sales professional is the person who clearly understands that each customer has what is referred to with-in the sales profession as a, "Life Time Value"!   He/she realizes that all customers are Creatures of Habit, (they like to deal with the same person that they dealt with the last time), and ... just as important, they have family members and friends who more often that not are also buying the same kinds of products and services that they buy!  This is precisely why the Direct Sales Industry is maintaining such strong growth numbers and continuing to set such powerful growth records even in our present economy.  It's called Word of Mouth!  And this is the primary reason why some sales people do so much betters than others. 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
    What do I need to do!  Well the first thing any one who makes his/her living in sales need to do is understand that each customer has a ... "Life Time Value"!  Second, you need to be as professional and friendly as professionally possible during any interaction with yours customers, and third, you need to make sure that your customers can get in touch with you at any time that they need to at little or no cost.  Forth, you also need to keep your name in front on them at all times.  Remember, ... "Out of Sight ...  Out of Mind"!  And fifth, you need to ask them for referrals. 
   
HOW CAN I ACCOMPLISH THIS
    How can I accomplish this!   In today's world, and in keeping with the times, You need a WEB SITE!   Having  an effective web site can make a huge difference in increasing responsiveness and customer satisfaction.  With a web site you can do some things that is impossible to get done without one.  Staying in touch with customers through email is an inexpensive but very effective way of keeping your business in the minds of your customers.  You can and should always offer them the opportunity to communicate with you online.   Have them sign-in at your guest book and make whatever comments that they wish!  Once you have their email address you can then inform them about any  special sales that has been scheduled and get them in ahead of the crowd.   You can also use this opportunity to ask them for referrals.  The exact approached that I have always used is ... I have a special gift for all referrals so please ... "TELL-A-FRIEND"!   This Special Gift always worked!

    ALTHOUGH my commission and tip sales experience was only in the food service business and the auto sales business, my purpose here is to talk about what I did which help me make on average twice as much as anyone else who worked with me, male of female!   No, I was not any better at bringing food, remembering what was on the menu nor could explain the features and benefits of the car better than anyone else!  My only claim to fame was that I was a student of people and personalities and,

#1:  I ALWAYS Provided them with the best possible service!  
#2:  I ALWAYS tried to find something to complement at least one of the party members on, (don't over do it)! 
#3,  I ALWAYS but ALWAYS asked my customers to ASK FOR ME the next time they came in so that I could make sure that they received the best possible service!
#4:   I ALWAYS but ALWAYS  asked my customers to refer ME to their family members and friends. 

    I used the exact same approach when I was in the Auto Sales Business and it worked like a charm.   I ALWAYS but ALWAYS asked my customers to ABS FOR ME the next time they came in so that I could make sure that they received the best possible service, and I ALWAYS reminded them that I have a special gift for all referrals so, please ... "TELL-A-FRIEND"!   My results were nothing short of amazing. 

YOU MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER
    SOMETHING THAT you must always remember:  People always want to feel good.  Sometimes they go out to eat or even buy a car for that reason alone.  When you can be part of making them feel good, they began to like you.  When you make them feel good they automatically want to do something good for you.  There is only one thing for them to do:  Give you a larger than normal tip or maybe even buy a car from you! 

    BUT YOU ALREADY know this, Right!  What you may not know is people need to see you about three times before they will ever remember your name and UNLESS you were able to make a lasting impression on them the first time that you met them, that customer will not have much of a "Life Time Value" to you!  

    AN EXAMPLE OF the life time value of a customer is as follows:  Over the past five (5) or six (6) years, I have eaten breakfast at the same little local dinner almost five (5) days per week, with few exceptions!   During the course of that period of time, there were about 5 or six different waiters and waitresses who waited on me.  None impressed me but the food was very good and their prices were reasonable.  On average my normal tip was about 10%.  Some times I wanted to tip more but I was never very impress with the service. And I was almost always approached with:  May I help you, or would you like coffee, or something like ... our special today is whatever! 

    NO ONE EVER approached me with ... Good Morning Carl, Thanks for Stopping By!   Or something like, We Really appreciate you visiting us so often.  I will continue to try and provide you with the very best of service. 

    As I said earlier, I always wanted to tip a little more but I always felt like I would be screwing myself if I had.

SO WHAT IS MY POINT
    SIMPLE THIS:  It's very easy to increase your income by 25% to 50% just by doing some of the things that we have already talked about above!  But I told you that I could show you how to increase your income by as much as 200%, Right!   Well, in order to do that there are some specifics that you must be aware of/do!  They are as follows: 

#1.  Always greet your customers with a friendly smile, and remember they are not usually concerned about your day!
#2.  They came to eat as well as feel good, help them along the way!
#3.  Give them your name card with your web site address on it!  WHAT!  What was that I just said!   I'll say it again:   You need to provide all of your customers with your Business Card, (no matter what area of sales you are in), and you should also have your web site address on it!   This sounds crazy, Right!  Perhaps it does, but the idea is to increase your income by up to 200% and I have no doubt that this is what you need to do.  Here why:

AN EXAMPLE OF MY MORNING ROUTINE
    Get up, wash and check my email!  Then I am ready to go out to breakfast and I need to decide where to go!   I already like where you work and I also like you but will you be there today!   Then I decided to check your web site, www.mywaitress/waiter.com.  I find that based on your schedule as indicated on your web site you should be there.  I then decide to stop by your place and as soon as I arrive, I ask them to sit me in your area!

    Can you see how this is possible!   Can you see how this will increase your TIPS or your Auto Sales, See my, (Auto Sales Story)!  As I said earlier, "WE ARE ALL CREATURES OF HABIT", and if you understand this and do some of the things that we have talked about here, you will be well on your way to earning twice as much income than you did last year, with even less customers, Guaranteed!

A REAL LIFE STORY 
    Why am I telling you this!  I am telling you this because this was a real life case.  Several years ago I went to Macy's to purchase a Suit!  I met a young salesman who was not only professional but also very personable. He showed me several very nice suits.  I had a tough time making my selection because I liked all four of the suits that he showed me.  Anyway after about 30-40 minutes I made a selection, purchased the suit, that the young salesman and was on my way.  Several days later, after wearing the suit I realized that I really liked the suit and decided that I would go back and buy at least one more of the suits that I had also liked.  I look for the young salesman's business card,   but did not remember ever receiving one form him but I decided to take my chances.  I drove back to Macy's, went to the same area and looked for the young man.  I didn't see him.  I tried to describe him to another sales person who was not very helpful.  I almost decided to return home but decided that I really wanted another of those suits. 

    After about ten or so minutes of checking out those same three suits that I had looked at before, I purchased all three!  As I said, "WE ARE ALL CREATURES OF HABIT"!   I wanted to purchase my second, third, forth and maybe even all the rest of my suit from the same young man that has waited on me so well when I purchased my first suit but I was not able to locate him.  I especially felt bad when I saw him come in as I was leaving.  I even stopped him and told him that I had looked around for him but could not remember his name! 

    Here is my point:  If he had made an effort to keep in touch with me.  If he had given me his business card and perhaps sent me a short THANK YOU post card, that also provided me with a means of getting in touch with him that was easy and at NO Cost to me! 

    If that young man had stayed in touch with me and considered my life time value, he would have made an additional several hundred dollars of me alone. And get this, I have since purchased my son, now a man, over five, (5) or six, (6) suits from Macys over the last several years.  And of course, I had to also purchase shirts, ties, shoes, socks, underwear and occasionally a hat or three!

HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE ALSO CREATURES OF HABIT AS I AM!
    We all are "All Creatures of Habit" and once you understand that, your TIPS, COMMISSIONS and repeat customers, no matter where you work, will began to GROW, and at a rapid pace, for as long as you main at the same location.   And get this:  Many of your customers will follower you to a new location, provided you are not to far away and often times it does not matter what establishment you are now at. .  I switched many of my customers from Buick's to Chevrolet's, simple because I was selling Chevrolet's at the time.  I am told that this is almost unheard of in the Auto industry!

WHAT CAN YOU DO IN ORDER TO WIN  BIG
    What can you do to position yourself to WIN BIG in the sales business!  Simple, provide ALL of your customers with an easy, cost free way to get in contact with you.  

WHAT YOU NEED IS YOUR OWN PERSONAL WEB SITE!
